Communications Officer, World Water Week
Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) is now looking for a Communications Officer, with strong design and communication skills to join World Water Week’s Marketing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a competent designer, wishing to contribute to the communication of water and a chance to develop their strategic thinking within an event marketing context. About World Water Week
World Water Week is the leading conference on global water issues, held every year in August, since 1991. A non-profit event, co-created with 500+ leading organizations, World Water Week attracts a diverse mix of ca. 15,000 participants from 198 countries and territories, onsite in Stockholm and online.
Each World Water Week is centred around a theme selected both to set and to reflect the global agenda. The Week is designed to raise awareness of the theme, to advance the debate, to reach new consensus and to learn from other sectors. In 2025 World Water Week’s theme is ‘Water for Climate Action’.
The Communication Officer’s role
This is a full-time hybrid position. The job is based at the SIWI offices in Stockholm, Sweden, with some days expected office attendance. Permission to work in Sweden is required (applicants without permission to work in Sweden will not be considered).
Main responsibilities
- Create graphic design, data visualisation, illustrations and video assets.
- Produce print ready artwork and manage delivery of assets to spec to suppliers.
- Writing blogs and articles, including proofing and editing.
- Website administration of worldwaterweek.org
- We are a data driven team and the role will require some data analysis and interpretation.
- You will report to the World Water Week & Prizes’ Head of Marketing, work closely with our Content and Social Media Manager and interact/ collaborate with colleagues from SIWI as well as external partners and stakeholders. There may be an additional opportunity for programme coordination in the future.
Who are you? Required competences:
A solid mid-weight designer with some years' experience with a strong and diverse portfolio. Professional knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, Rush and Premier Pro. Experience with water and/ or sustainability related fields is merited.
A compelling storyteller with strong copywriting skills able to write and edit to a professional level.
- Demonstrable experience writing for an international event/ conference or an NGO.
- Professional copywriting experience in English with a (near) native level of spoken and written English.
Website administration experience using Wordpress or equivalent inc. basic understanding of HTML and CSS. Analytics expertise is highly desirable.
Data analysis experience and Excel skills are highly desirable.
Event marketing experience is merited. Although not strictly required, you should demonstrate a clear interest in developing your understanding in this area.
Organised and structured with excellent time management skills who isn’t easily overwhelmed.
You need to be capable of juggling many and varied tasks at the same time: To zoom in to look in detail at assets as they develop but also zoom out to think about the audience, messaging, objectives, etc.
A people person and excellent communicator: Dealing with different people, from SIWI experts speaking the language of their discipline and World Water Week colleagues working to tight deadlines, external partners and stakeholders.
Share SIWI’s values and be an advocate for our cross-cutting issues (CCIs): Youth empowerment, gender equality and a human rights-based approach.
An interest in some or all the following: climate change, water security, environmental conservation, biodiversity, SDGs.
